Time to Guac and Roll

Guacamole is the perfect snack. It’s healthy, filling, and it’s insanely flavorful if made right. As an added bonus your friends will be impressed by a nice homemade guac even though its dead simple to make, but they don’t have to know that. The perfect guacamole in my eyes is one that is chunky with big bits of avocado, onion, and tomato. An often-overlooked aspect of guacamole is the seasoning. This can transform your guac from the bland store-bought stuff to a flavor explosion. So, don’t forget to include some salt, pepper, and cumin. Another important aspect of a simple vegan dish like this is the quality of produce used. I promise a guac made with produce from the grocery store will not come close to one made with fresh produce from a farmer’s market.

To start, you need 3 ripe avocados, you want to give a little but not be too squishy. 2 Roma tomatoes, ½ red onion, 1 jalapeno, 2 garlic cloves, 1 lime, ½ teaspoon sea salt, ¼ teaspoon cumin, fresh cracked black pepper. Remove pit and skin from avocado and add to a large bowl. Dice the red onion, Roma tomatoes, and jalapeno add to bowl. This step is where you can control how thick you want everything to be. Mince garlic and add to bowl. Squeeze the juice of the lime and add seasoning to the bowl. Mix until combined and at your desired level of texture. I try to match the size of my avocado pieces to my diced onion and tomato and just mash until the avocado can grab on to everything. To go the extra mile, choose a high-quality corn tortilla, cut into triangles, brush with olive oil and salt, put in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Now you and your friends can all enjoy homemade guacamole and fresh tortilla chips. Enjoy!
